Kundalini: An Untold Story – A Journey Within
Recently, I read an amazing book – Kundalini: An Untold Story by Om Swami. This book answers why we need to connect with ourselves. It is not a motivational text but an honest attempt to explain the power of Kundalini and how to walk on a self-realization path. A path of self-discovery and an answer to our existence.
Om Swami’s ‘Kundalini: An Untold Story’ is a profound exploration of one of the most powerful spiritual energies. The book demystifies Kundalini, presenting it not as a mystical concept reserved for a select few, but as an inherent potential within all of us. Swami Ji masterfully weaves ancient wisdom with practical insights, making this complex subject accessible and relatable.
The book begins by introducing Kundalini as the divine feminine energy residing at the base of the spine. It also briefly introduces the source of this ancient knowledge: ‘Lalita Sahasranam’. Om Swami ji further explains that activating this energy is not merely about gaining supernatural powers, but about achieving a profound state of self-awareness and union with the divine.
The author further focuses on Kundalini as the very essence of creation and vitality, discussing how this dormant energy, when awakened, can bring about immense physical, mental, and spiritual transformation. The awakening process is gradual and requires discipline and guidance. A real-life example could be likened to learning any complex skill – like playing a musical instrument – which requires dedication and practice to master.
The book then provides a detailed overview of the seven Chakras, the energy centers through which Kundalini rises:
- Muladhara (Root Chakra): Associated color – Orange, Beej Mantra – ‘San’, Benefits of awakening – Feeling grounded, secure, and stable; increased vitality and courage.
- Svadhisthana (Sacral Chakra): Associated color – Yellow, Beej Mantra – ‘Kam’, Benefits of awakening – Enhanced creativity, emotional balance, passion, and healthy relationships.
- Manipura (Solar Plexus Chakra): Associated color -, Beej Mantra – ‘Lam’, Benefits of awakening – Increased self-esteem, personal power, strong willpower, and digestive health.
- Anahata (Heart Chakra): Associated color – ‘Black’, Beej Mantra – ‘Ram’, Benefits of awakening – Unconditional love, compassion, empathy, forgiveness, and deeper connections.
- Vishuddhi (Throat Chakra): Associated color – Red, Beej Mantra – ‘Dam’, Benefits of awakening – Clear communication, authentic self-expression, truthfulness, and creativity in speech.
- Agya (Third Eye Chakra): Associated color – White, Beej Mantra – ‘Ham’, Benefits of awakening – Enhanced intuition, foresight, spiritual awareness, and clarity of thought.
- Sahasrar (Crown Chakra): Associated color – mix of all colors, Beej Mantra – ‘Yam’ (silent vibration), Benefits of awakening – Enlightenment, cosmic consciousness, profound peace, and a sense of unity with all.
The book guides the reader through different meditation techniques and yogic practices that aid in Kundalini awakening, stressing the importance of consistency and a qualified guru. A crucial point emphasized is that true liberation comes from transcending the limitations of the mind. To truly gain absolute bliss, one needs to go beyond thoughts, then feelings, and finally even experiences, as these are all transient.
Throughout the book, the essence of meditation as being in the present moment is subtly woven. By focusing our awareness on the breath or a chosen object, we learn to detach from the constant stream of thoughts and emotions, anchoring ourselves in the ‘now’. This presence is key to observing the subtle movements of Kundalini energy and progressing on the spiritual path.
The book describes the experience of Kundalini reaching the Sahasrar chakra, leading to a state of ultimate bliss, enlightenment, and union with the divine, emphasizing that this is not just an intellectual understanding but a direct, experiential realization. Awakening Sahasrar makes seeker (Sadhak) an ascetic (Sidhh) and finally brings the end of knowing, wanting or doing more.
I really enjoyed the book. The language is engaging and simple. It is a must-read for all of us, especially those who are already looking for the answers through meditation. Thank you, Om Swami Ji, for writing this awesome book.
