Is there any way of revamping our schools?
Is there any practical approach towards personalized learning?
Diane Tavenner has done a fantastic work finding answers to these questions and shared them in her book ‘Prepared: What Kids Need for a Fulfilled Life’.
The book is actually a memoir where she has revisited her efforts, thoughts & challenges while building the most successful school ‘Summit Public School.’
The book summarily promotes the concept of ‘Project based learning’, which brings the students again in the center of learning.
The teachers then, primarily design the projects encapsulating the essential learnings or key concepts as per the level of students.
The other task of teachers is to mentor the students. This brings an amazing bond between teachers and students where a teacher understands the need of her/his student.
In return, students are free to choose their projects, practice the concepts and learnings on their own pace & methods. There is no coercing to finish something without any learning.. an essential ingredient to achieve the goal of personalized learning.
The books is engaging and deeply thought provoking towards the real pain of parents and students. This book should be a must-read for all the educators.
Thanks Diane Tavenner for this book!
